Cimpina’s expertise in Welding Procedure Specifications, Hardness Testing and Heat Treatment has been called upon at Calor Gas’ main storage facility in Belfast. A hortonsphere, built back in 1963 required modifications to some corroded penetrations. As the LPG is stored at – 18 deg C under positive and negative pressures. Due to the high risk nature of the works, all welding and repair works required approval from Bureau Veritas. Together with BV, MH Kennedy, and Calor gas – a complete methodology of works was agreed and repairs undertaken. Heat treatment to relief stress built up in the Heat Affected and Weld zones were conducted. Hardness testing before and after all works were undertaken and all values were deemed acceptable by BV. Cimpina are glad to have helped Calor Gas extend the operational use of its gas stores.
