Rosyth2

Early June saw Sub-Con at the Birmingham NEC Arena, a trade show dedicated to companies within the sub-contracting business.

Cimpina visited this time to meet others in the engineering supply chain. We met with profilers, equipment manufacturers, stockists, and fixings suppliers.

Of special interest was the seminar by David Downs, Engineering Director for Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA). David articulated the fabrication methodology employed for the two new aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales.

For both vessels various parts of the structure were manufactured in shipyards around Great Britain, put onto a barge and brought together at Rosyth, Scotland. In Rosyth, a new Goliath crane was constructed specifically for this project and is now the largest in the UK. This crane enabled the construction team to lift and manoeuvre giant super blocks into Nr1 Building Dock. For further information visit www.aircraftalliance.co.uk
